Our National Chemistry Week Celebration at the Children's Museum of Houston was a resounding success! 46 volunteers participated from 4 local colleges; University of Houston Downtown, Texas Southern University, Rice University, and University of St. Thomas.
All of the interactive tables were led by our volunteers, and families visited tables for about 10-15 minutes at a time. Attendees interacted with samples of natural and synthetic fabrics (including fabric made from recycled plastic bottles!), tried their hands at block printing, made molecule models from Play-Doh, created their very own slime in various colors to take home, and experimented with an acid (vinegar) and a base (NaHCO3) to change the color of red cabbage juice and grape juice. All attendees and volunteers conducting experimental explorations practiced safety by wearing gloves and safety glasses.
Volunteers were treated with pizza at lunch time!
