Chemists Celebrate Earth Day: Illustrated Poetry Contest

Deadline: April 15th

Teachers and Parents, are you looking for something science related for your students to work on during their time at home, maybe as a supplement to their on-line learning or a way to mix art, science, and English? You're in luck! The Greater Houston Section of the American Chemical Society is still hosting their Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) Illustrated Poetry Contest. This contest is hosted locally and the area winners in each grade category are forwarded on to the National contest. This year the topic is "Protecting Our Planet through Chemistry." Many teachers in the past have offered this opportunity for extra credit, but with the COVID-19 outbreak, it might serve as a way for students to do a little research about a topic and then produce a product that is both educational and artistic. Please see the attached flyer and entry form and get your students to work on this fun and educational project. We look forward to seeing what they produce!

The contest is open to students in grades K-12, with the categories being broken into four age groups. Please download the flyer and entry form and start your poem today. If you have any questions, please contact Amiee Modic at chemmodic@gmail.com. Happy drawing and happy writing!

Contest deadline: April 15th
